About Center for Urban and Regional Planning
Literally transferring development models and methods of development from developed countries to developing countries is neither correct nor successful in implementation, due to the different needs, cultures, trends and strategic requirements of these countries. Development plans require that they be formulated with this perception and stem from the core of these needs and aspirations and are studied by local planners who are familiar with the reality of their countries, their needs and their cultures. Based on this, there is an urgent need for planners who are working to develop specifications and methods of planning at its various stages and levels (local, urban, and regional), in light of the urbanization and development movement in the country. This is what emerged from the scientific symposium held by the Ministry of Planning in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNPD) in 1970.
Accordingly, the Law No. 116 of 1971 was issued establishing the Urban and Regional Planning Center at the University of Baghdad
Our Goals, Objectives
Vision
Contribute to creating planning awareness and preparing qualified planners to deal with the expected planning changes and challenges in a way that ensures laying the foundations of the desired modern renaissance in Iraq.
the message

Contribute to building and developing human capital in Iraq along with other university institutions, in a way that provides state and community institutions with planners specialized in planning at its local, urban, and regional levels, and keeping pace with scientific development in the field.

Objectives

The establishment of the Urban and Regional Planning Center came to meet Iraq’s urgent need for specialized planners holding a higher professional diploma, a master’s degree, and a doctorate in the field of urban and regional planning, to be qualified in drawing up spatial development policies, translating them into plans and following up on their implementation, starting with the study of the spatial environment (cities, governorates). and regions).
